Unison Ltd has completed the acquisition of California-based PHI Hydraulics, a producer of tube and pipe production machinery and tooling.

The acquisition expands Unison’s product portfolio and strengthens its position in tube manipulation and forming technologies, particularly in the North American market. The move also supports the continued growth of Unison Tube LLC, the company’s U.S.-based division located in Danville, Virginia.

Expanded Product Range

Through the acquisition, Unison adds PHI’s range of end-forming technologies to its existing lineup. These include solutions for tube and pipe flaring, flanging, beading, squaring and deburring. PHI’s equipment supports tube and pipe diameters ranging from approximately 0.125 inches to 8 inches.

In addition to end-forming machines, PHI’s portfolio includes manual and hydraulic tube and pipe bending machines, tooling systems, and manual and motorized hydraulic presses. The combined offerings are expected to broaden Unison’s capabilities across multiple tube forming applications.

Impact on Customers and Operations

According to company statements, PHI customers may benefit from expanded access to Unison’s technologies, including all-electric tube bending machines, control systems, software, tube scanning and bend simulation solutions.

The companies also indicated that the acquisition is expected to support improvements in service response times, product lead times and future product development initiatives, along with increased automation capabilities.

Strategic Growth in North America

Unison stated that the acquisition aligns with its long-term growth strategy, particularly in the United States. The addition of PHI’s product lines and customer base is expected to enhance market reach and strengthen the company’s position as a provider of tube forming technologies.

PHI Hydraulics, with a history spanning more than 85 years, has supported tube forming and bending applications across a range of industries, including aerospace manufacturing. Its legacy includes predecessor brands such as Leonard Precision Products and Conrac Machine Tool.

The integration of PHI into Unison’s operations reflects ongoing consolidation and investment within the global machine tool and tube forming equipment sector.
