EMUGE-FRANKEN USA Hosts Manufacturing Day Event
EMUGE-FRANKEN USA welcomed students, educators, workforce development professionals and government leaders to its West Boylston, Massachusetts, headquarters on October 2 for a Manufacturing Day event focused on career opportunities in modern manufacturing.
The four-hour event, titled “Explore the Future of Manufacturing,” introduced students to career paths in machining, computer numerical control (CNC) programming, engineering, technical applications and other manufacturing-related fields. Attendees participated in facility tours, technology demonstrations and a career panel featuring industry professionals.
Bob Hellinger, president of EMUGE-FRANKEN USA, opened the event with remarks about the company's role in the global manufacturing industry and its contributions to sectors including aerospace, medical, automotive, defense and energy.
Students then observed a live CNC machining demonstration illustrating how digital programming and automated equipment transform raw materials into finished components. The demonstration highlighted the relationship between programming, precision machining and modern manufacturing processes.
Facility tours provided additional insight into the design and production of precision cutting tools. EMUGE-FRANKEN USA manufactures end mills, taps, thread mills, drills and other rotary tools used in machining applications. Students learned about the technology, technical expertise and precision required to produce cutting tools used in manufacturing components for a range of industries.
The event also featured a technology showcase unveiling a 54-inch precision-machined Freedom Tower created in collaboration with manufacturing technology partners. The display commemorated a significant moment in American history.
A career panel titled “Paths Into Manufacturing” concluded the program. Participants represented manufacturing, machining, engineering, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software, technical applications and shop-floor operations. Panelists discussed their career paths, the skills used in their roles, employer expectations and opportunities for professional advancement.
The discussion also addressed the variety of career options available in modern manufacturing, including positions in advanced technology, computer programming, engineering, technical applications and management. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and hear directly from professionals working in these fields.
The event brought together EMUGE-FRANKEN USA managers and representatives from workforce development organizations, economic development agencies and local, state and federal government. Participants included Matt Berard and Laura Arnold of MassMEP; U.S. Representative Jim McGovern, who represents Massachusetts' 2nd Congressional District; representatives of state legislators Robyn Kennedy and James O'Day; and officials from the Massachusetts Office of Business Development, the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Town of West Boylston.
Through facility tours, hands-on demonstrations and direct engagement with manufacturing professionals, the event provided students with an introduction to the technologies, skills and career opportunities associated with today's manufacturing industry.
