Clinton, IA & South Roxana, ILMaas Companies has been appointed to conduct a court-ordered sealed bid auction for two former Hero BX biodiesel refinery properties located in Clinton and South Roxana.

The auction follows a federal court order placing the renewable fuel assets into receivership amid reported liquidity challenges. Bids for both properties are due by June 18, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. CDT.

Iowa Biodiesel Plant Includes Rail Access and Industrial Infrastructure

One of the featured assets is a former 10-million-gallon-per-year biodiesel facility located at 5640 44th Avenue South in Clinton, Iowa. The property spans approximately 13.33 acres within the Lincolnway Industrial Rail & Air Park.

The site includes direct access to the Union Pacific Railroad network and is positioned near major Midwest transportation and industrial markets, offering logistical advantages for future operations or redevelopment.

Illinois Site Positioned Near Major Refining Corridor

The second property is located at 7350 State Route 111 in South Roxana, Illinois. The site previously operated as a 12-million-gallon-per-year biodiesel plant and occupies approximately 5.59 acres.

Although the facility has been dismantled, the location remains situated within a major industrial and fuel distribution corridor near the Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery. The site may appeal to investors seeking infrastructure for fuel storage, distribution, or industrial redevelopment.

Sealed Bid Auction Details

The properties will be sold through a sealed bid auction process. According to Maas Companies, interested buyers must submit a $20,000 certified deposit with their bids. A 10% buyer’s premium will also apply to winning offers.

On-site inspections are scheduled for both locations in May and June, while virtual Matterport 360 tours and drone footage are also being made available to prospective bidders.

Industry observers note that renewable fuel facilities in established industrial regions can attract interest for both biofuel production and alternative manufacturing applications, particularly when supported by existing transportation infrastructure.

Renewable Energy Asset Market Continues to Evolve

The auction reflects broader changes within the biodiesel and renewable fuels sector, where market volatility, financing challenges, and shifting energy policies continue to reshape ownership and operations.

Facilities with rail access, industrial zoning, and existing utility infrastructure may offer redevelopment potential beyond biodiesel production, including industrial manufacturing, storage, or logistics uses.

Maas Companies specializes in the auction and liquidation of industrial assets, including renewable energy facilities, manufacturing plants, and heavy industrial real estate across North America.
